Martín Letelier is a Chilean composer based in Germany. His music explores the intersection of language, literature and sound, often inspired by poets from both past and present.
In 2025, he was an artist-in-residence at the Yaddo Colony in New York, a finalist in the FestyVocal Composition Competition in France, and the winner of the Latin American Call for Young Composers at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Previously in 2024, he received three awards at the Nocturne Composition Competition, organized by the German Choral Association. In 2022, he won first prize and the audience award at the Regensburg Composition Competition (Germany) and in 2020 he was nominated for a Pulsar Award for his work with Ensemble Musikfabrik. He is the winner of the 9th Luis Advis Composition Competition.
Besides his creative work, Martín teaches composition in the cities of Cologne and Hennef, and has been invited to give lectures in institutions such as the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and the Universidad Austral de Chile. As an arranger, he has worked among others with the latin band El Chibano, who received a Pulsar Award 2022 on their debut album “Salsa Consciente” including four of his arrangements.
Martín holds a Master in Composition from the University of Music and Dance of Cologne (HfMT Köln) where he studied with Markus Hechtle. Prior to this, he studied composition at the Universidad de Chile, where he graduated with highest distinction. He has attended masterclasses of musicians such as Carola Bauckholt, Alexander Schubert, Iris ter Schiphorst, Marko Nikodijevic and Sarah Maria Sun.
